K-pop legend U-Know of TVXQ shared his honest thoughts on the unexpected resurgence of his 2021 song “Thank U” while celebrating the release of his first full-length solo album I-KNOW.

On November 5, Yunho held a press conference at the Sofitel Ambassador Seoul Hotel to commemorate the album’s release. Addressing the recent viral wave of Thank U, he said,

“It made me realize that all the work I’ve done was worth it. I didn’t expect the song to get this much love, but it reminded me how important a good song truly is.”

Originally released in 2021, Thank U went viral in 2024 thanks to humorous memes and fan edits on social media. Yunho reflected,

“It started as a meme—people were teasing it, but it really depends on how you take it. I decided to embrace it, and I actually had fun watching it spread. Even my elementary school niece calls me ‘Thank U Uncle’ now.”

He also thanked YouTuber Looksam, who helped spark the viral “Lesson” meme trend, saying,

“I want to express my gratitude to Looksam for making it popular again.”

Looking back on his long career, Yunho added,

“I’ve experienced every format—from tapes and CDs to streaming. I’m grateful to still be active today. It means a lot when younger artists call me a good senior or role model.”

Yunho’s first full album I-KNOW was officially released at 6 PM (KST) on November 5, marking a new chapter in his solo career. The record showcases his growth as a performer and producer under SM Entertainment, combining the intensity of his past with the maturity of his present sound.
