BTS member V has demonstrated his popularity by ranking first in a poll for "K-pop Idols Fans Want to See in Dramas," reflecting the high anticipation for his acting return.
V claimed the top spot in a poll conducted by Japanese Hallyu media outlet "Danmee." The survey, which included 21 K-pop idols who haven't appeared in dramas for over a year, was themed "I miss his acting, I want to see him act again after a long time." V appeared in the KBS drama "Hwarang" in 2016. Earlier this year, "Hwarang" made headlines in Japan when entertainment company Avex Pictures adapted it into a stage play. The drama continues to be broadcast worldwide through Netflix and other OTT platforms and TV, contributing significantly to the K-drama wave. During the filming of "Hwarang," V was simultaneously participating in BTS's Asia tour "2016 BTS LIVE The Most Beautiful Moment in Life on stage: epilogue Asia Tour." Despite having to leave the production early due to his packed schedule, which barely left him time to eat, he made a strong impression as an actor.
Although V had no formal acting training, he perfectly portrayed the role of "Hansung," the youngest Hwarang, announcing his arrival as an "actor-idol." The director, producer, and staff of "Hwarang" praised V's natural talent and unique personality, expressing special affection by saying, "Everyone fell in love with V because he is a lovable person with such good energy." Despite appearing in only one drama, fans have been waiting for V's return to acting for a decade. V has previously stated that while BTS group activities take priority, causing him to decline many casting offers, he would like to act again someday.
V lists Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" and Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather" among his favorite films, showing his taste for hardboiled genres and classic noir. He has also demonstrated exceptional talent in comedy, indicating his vast potential as an actor. Directors both domestically and internationally have shown great interest in V's acting abilities. "Hwarang" director Yoon Sung-sik revealed he was captivated by V at first sight, while director-actor Max Minghella expressed his admiration for V in an MTV interview. Xavier Dolan, winner of the Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize, named V as a Korean artist he would like to work with. "Beauty Inside" director Baek Jong-yeol has been following V with interest since seeing him act out scenes from the film "The Wind" on a variety show.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, V mentioned that he "would like to try acting again after turning 30," leaving countless fans and production companies eagerly awaiting the era of actor "Kim Taehyung."
