Netflix has officially confirmed the production of its new series, ‘Slowly but Fiercely’ (working title), unveiling a powerful cast lineup.
Set against the backdrop of the South Korean entertainment industry from the 1960s to the 1980s, ‘Slowly but Fiercely’ follows the growth stories of individuals who, despite having nothing, risk everything in pursuit of success. The series is penned by renowned screenwriter Noh Hee-kyung, known for ‘Our Blues,’ ‘Dear My Friends,’ ‘It’s Okay, That’s Love,’ and directed by Lee Yoon-jung, the creative force behind ‘Coffee Prince’ and ‘Cheese in the Trap’—raising anticipation for this highly-anticipated project.
Leading the cast is Song Hye-kyo, celebrated for her roles in Netflix’s ‘The Glory,’ as well as dramas like ‘Encounter,’ ‘Descendants of the Sun,’ and the film ‘Dark Nuns.’ She will take on the role of Min-ja, a woman who has endured a tumultuous childhood, developing an unbreakable spirit. As she struggles through life, she seizes an opportunity in the Korean music industry and takes a bold leap forward. This marks Song Hye-kyo’s third collaboration with writer Noh Hee-kyung, following ‘Worlds Within’ and ‘That Winter, the Wind Blows.’
Joining her is Gong Yoo, known for his impactful performances in ‘Goblin,’ ‘Coffee Prince,’ ‘The Age of Shadows,’ ‘Train to Busan,’ and Netflix hits like ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 and ‘Trunk.’ He will portray Dong-gu, Min-ja’s childhood friend, who has been by her side through thick and thin and eventually ventures into the music industry with her. Despite his unpredictable nature, Dong-gu is unwaveringly devoted to Min-ja. This project also marks Gong Yoo’s long-awaited reunion with director Lee Yoon-jung since ‘Coffee Prince.’
With the star-studded cast, the powerhouse team of Noh Hee-kyung and Lee Yoon-jung, and a compelling storyline, ‘Slowly but Fiercely’ is set to begin filming soon.
