K-pop girl group ILLIT continues to demonstrate their remarkable upward trajectory, breaking their own first-week album sales records with each consecutive release.
According to Hanteo Chart data released on June 23, ILLIT's third mini album 'bomb' topped the weekly album chart by selling 401,674 copies during its first week of release (June 16-22). The five-member group consisting of Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, and Iroha surpassed the first-week sales of their previous release, the second mini album 'I'LL LIKE YOU', which recorded 382,621 copies.
Chart-Topping Success Across Platforms
The album's title track "Billyeoon Goyangi (Do the Dance)" has garnered significant attention with its addictive, spell-like melody. The French house-inspired song immediately entered Melon's 'Top 100' chart upon release and has maintained its position within the rankings. On Apple Music Korea's 'Today's Top 100', the track secured the number one spot for four consecutive days from June 18-21.
The accompanying music video has also achieved remarkable success, reaching second place on YouTube Korea's 'Trending Videos' chart.
Performance and Styling Praised by Global Fans
Since their comeback on June 16, ILLIT has appeared on various music programs showcasing their title track performance. International fans have praised multiple aspects of their comeback, including the members' charming yet distinctive magical girl styling, their heart-fluttering performances, and their expressive acting that enhances the song's immersive quality.
The group's trendy choreography has particularly amplified the appeal of "Do the Dance." The point choreography features cat-like movements, including sleek gestures and stretching motions, with a standout move where members grab one foot while turning.
Viral Dance Challenge Gains Celebrity Participation
The "Do the Dance" challenge has captured attention across the K-pop community. ILLIT created an engaging concept for their challenge videos, "borrowing" cat-like members to perform the point choreography, which has won over K-pop fans worldwide.
The challenge has attracted participation from numerous prominent artists, including BTS's J-Hope, ENHYPEN's Jungwon, &TEAM's Nicholas and Yuma, BOYNEXTDOOR's Sungho, ATEEZ's Yeosang and San, ME:I's Ran, and Miyao Suin and Anna.
Expanding Into Variety Entertainment
ILLIT has also showcased their entertainment skills across various web variety shows. The group has demonstrated their quick wit and natural variety show instincts on programs including "Idol Human Theater," "Minju's Pink Cabinet" (where member Minju serves as MC), and "I Do Love."
Member Yunah is scheduled to appear on "Limousine Service" tomorrow (June 24) to showcase her captivating vocal talents.
Continued Growth Trajectory
With 'bomb', ILLIT continues their narrative storytelling approach, exploring how the group expands their world through relationships. Following their debut album "SUPER REAL ME" which focused on self-discovery, and "I'LL LIKE YOU" which expressed budding affection, 'bomb' initiates a deeper narrative centered on connection and growth.
The group's consistent record-breaking achievements demonstrate their rapidly growing fanbase and solidify their position as one of K-pop's most promising rookie acts.
